Lupen Crook is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist based on the Kent coast. He has been the driving force behind numerous artistic projects and creative endeavours, encompassing painting, curation, videography, book arts, and experimental musical projects.

His paintings are held in private collections, and have been displayed in exhibitions across London and Kent, notably Saatchi Gallery, London (2022), curated by Zavier Ellis (Charlie Smith London). His written work is featured in the Summer 2023 edition of Vipers Tongue (Billy Childish / L-13).

Crook’s practice as a painter investigates the psychological and symbolic internal worlds of the everyday. Balancing primitive, semi-abstract mark-making with dreamlike impressions of figures and bodies, to depictions of places and inanimate objects that serve as windows into deeper realms. Through this Crook explores the fragile, liminal boundaries between fantasy and reality.

In his career as a musician and songwriter, Crook observes the darker aspects of the everyday, with a unique and poetic lyrical approach. Primarily a story-teller, his catalogue spans genres, and like his visual output, exists in its own universe, drawing on traditions of folk songwriting, and incorporating electronica, garage rock, and elements of neo-classical orchestration.
